Engagement Guide | Washington, DC Engagement Photography / by Clarissa Villondo

All of our packages include an engagement session. It gives us a chance to help you be less camera shy. It gives you a chance to see how we'll work during your wedding. Here are some of the most popular questions that we get from our couples.

Should we do the engagement session?

We're obviously biased when we say this, but YES, YOU SHOULD. As we keep saying, it helps you get used to being in front of a camera. It'll help prep you for how we will photograph your wedding. We're going to make sure you're going to be able to be yourselves and make sure you're comfortable.

Also, most of our couples end up printing them out to display on their wedding day. You'll be able to hang pre-wedding photos of you two together.

Where should we go for our engagement session?

One of the questions we ask you in the beginning is what you like to do as a couple. For our engagement sessions, we typically take you two on a date where you're doing something you bond over. For one couple, we went hiking. For another, we went to where he proposed. For another couple, we had them go on a date around Annapolis. If both of you like the activity or the place, you're going to be more relaxed and forget how camera shy you might be.

What should we wear?

We recommend wearing what makes you feel comfortable. We also recommend earth tone colors and clothes without large logos or sayings. Do you have an outfit you absolutely love? Wear that.
We also recommend wearing an outfit that makes sense for the activity. If we're going hiking, please don't wear heels. We don't want you breaking an ankle. If you're going on a date around town, by all means, wear your heels.

I still don't know what to wear.

We welcome our couples texting / emailing outfit choices. We'll help you choose.

Can we have multiple outfits?

Definitely. We'll have to find a place for you to change, but we'll definitely be open to you changing. It gives you different looks for the day. Keep in mind though, it's generally a two hour session, so don't bring your entire wardrobe. Bringing scarves, jackets, hats, jewelry, different ties if he's going to wear different ties and different pairs of shoes are always helpful.

Should I get my makeup and hair done?

This is up to you. Most of our clients try to book their trial session with their makeup and hair stylist on the same morning as the engagement session. We can also recommend great hair and makeup people if you are interested in having someone else do this for you. It's one less thing to worry about!
